Where is Work Offline button in Windows 8

In Windows 7, if you are in a folder that was made available offline, you can always see Work offline button on the top toolbar. This allows to force working offline even when you are connected to the server. Very useful if connection is slow or unstable.

Similarly, if you are working offline, the above button changes to Work online and allows you to go back to an online mode.

In Windows 8, this button is now in different and slightly less obvious place. on the Home tab of File Explorer click Easy access > Work offline

Thanks for pointing this out. Amazing how the button which is so useful is effectively "hidden" in the New group (of course users think, "I want to change my offline files status, so I must want the New group", and then further hidden under "Easy access".

If it was truly "easy" it should be in the Organize group and not hidden.

Crazy UI design.

Great help, but what can you do when the "Work Offline" is greyed out even when connected to the VPN?

I also found, that once i'd made my files available offline, i could not see them online even though i was online and connected through my VPN. However by pressing this button all online file became live.. THANK YOU

I cannot believe how simple this was. I have a Direct Access server setup for Windows 8 Enterprise clients. And they would go into offline mode periodically. I had no idea this was the only issue. Days of troubleshooting fixed with 2 clicks. Thank you.
