Issue
Symantec Backup Exec 15 agent manual installation on Windows Server 2003 R2 fails with following error:
Microsoft VC++ Redistributables (x86) Installation failed.
Install logs had following errors:
Return Value of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86) : 1603
V-225-298: ERROR: Failed to execute VC 10.0 runtime installer. Error code 1603. ***To search for Information about this error, click here
Review this log file for details: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\V10.0_x86_msruntime_install.log
The return value for Microsoft VC++ Redistributables: (x86) returned error code : 1603
The Installation Failed!
Resolution
The issue was caused by Symantec Backup Exec agent setup not being able to locate Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installation files. Only folder RAWS32 was originally copied to the target server. After copying VCRedist folder and placing it next to RAWS32, installation completed without any errors. Both folder are located in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents on the Symantec Backup Exec server.
