Issue
Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V server System Logs are filled with the following warnings:
Event ID: 8017
Source: DNS Client Events
User: Network Service
Details:
The system failed to update and remove host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter
with settings:
Adapter Name : {CB032530-6E23-4220-8328-605853A9F603}
Host Name : SERVER-NAME
Primary Domain Suffix : ad.domain.com
DNS server list : 8.8.8.8, 208.67.222.222
Sent update to server : <?>
IP Address(es) : 192.168.0.97
The reason for this failure is because the DNS server sent the update either (a) does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol, or (b) the authoritative zone for the DNS domain name specified in these host (A or AAAA) RRs does not currently accept DNS dynamic updates.
Resolution
The issue was resolved by unchecking "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" option in the affected network adapter's Advanced TCP/IP Settings.
